Australia's Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
Australia's Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1992 is a federal law designed to protect individuals with disabilities from discrimination and ensure equal opportunities in areas like employment, education, and access to goods and services. While the DDA does not specify technical accessibility guidelines, the Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) recommends WCAG 2.1 as the standard for digital compliance. Australian law recognizes web accessibility as a legal obligation, requiring businesses and government entities to ensure their digital platforms are inclusive and accessible.
Brazil's Law No. 13,146
Brazil’s Law on the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (Law No. 13,146/2015) is a comprehensive federal statute that prohibits discrimination and promotes accessibility across employment, education, and public services. It mandates that companies with over 100 employees allocate 2% to 5% of positions to persons with disabilities. The law also requires that government and corporate websites operating in Brazil be accessible, ensuring equal access to digital information and services.
Japan's Act on the Elimination of Disability Discrimination
apan’s Act for Eliminating Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (2016) prohibits disability-based discrimination and requires reasonable accommodations in workplaces and services. Employers must meet disability hiring quotas, increasing to 2.5% in April 2024 and 2.7% in July 2026. Japan also ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2014, reinforcing its commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
